About this variation
Colas is the young farmer Lise loves. In Act II, their courtship comes up against Widow Simone’s plan to marry Lise to Alain. This variation presents Colas as the hopeful, determined sweetheart at the center of the ballet’s comic struggle over whom Lise will marry.
