About this variation
Nikiya dances at Solor and Gamzatti’s engagement celebration while grieving Solor’s betrayal. A flower basket briefly restores her hope, but a hidden snake bites her. She refuses the High Brahmin’s antidote rather than renounce Solor, transforming the solo from public sorrow into tragedy.
